In this investigation Gideon Levy immerses himself in the Dutch education system. He stays over at a regular primary school and participates in lessons at a special school. Pupils, parents and teachers tell him in frank discussions what they experience day-to-day in and outside the school. The Minister of Education, Mr. Bijsterveldt will cut 300 million euros on special education, causing the abandonment of subsidies for parents with special needs children, known as the ‘backpack system’. The minister wants these 'problem pupils’ to go to a regular school around the corner. ´The child of the bill` shows what consequences this will have on the Dutch education system.
